“All she wanted was her kids.”
Sian, Nia’s sister
An inquest into a Welsh Mother’s tragic death concluded that the cause of her death was suicide by hanging.
What the report doesn’t say is that it was Family Court that caused Nia to commit suicide by taking and not protecting her children.
Nia's self-esteem plummeted, she was unable to continue in her career, and she was overwhelmed by the legal proceedings. The loss of custody and inability to protect her children became just too painful for her to bear.
MSM (mainstream media) is reporting that Nia took her life due to “chronic anxiety”. They do not report that her anxiety was justified, caused by Family Court.
Nia's relationship with the father of her children is framed as “toxic”, which puts the blame equally on her, rather than on his abuse. She was made to feel like she was a bad mother, but her own mother confirmed she was really an excellent mum.
MSM virtually never puts the blame where it belongs—on Family Court judges, and the system itself—when mothers or children lose their lives by suicide or murder when the mother is trying to protect her children from an abusive father in Family Court.
This misreporting by the media of the devastation of mothers and children in Family Courts contributes greatly to the perpetuation of the Crisis. It's up to social media and internet platforms such as Substack to get the truth about the Custody Crisis.

Sadly this is happening all too often. The family courts do not care what damage they do. As soon as a mother is seen trying to leave the abusive husband / partner and children are involved the local authorities / social services refuse to believe the father of being abusive and they side on him and the mother is then branded unstable and made to go through so many assessments and tests and the children are forcibly removed by social services by the lies they tell. You can have as much evidence to support your case but the family courts refuse to acknowledge abuse happens and despite the Domestic Abuse Bill that was created to show coercive / controlling behaviour the judges do not care and will always side with the social services as it is purely a money gaining process and the truth is never sought out and the mothers and the children are the ones who end up loosing out and sadly like this dear mother she could not take the heart ache any longer but the local authorities and other professionals will report she was unstable but they will refuse to actually report the truth that they are the perpetrators of abuse and they are the real reason this dear soul has sadly passed on.
The Welsh statistics for removing children into care are exceptionally high compared to England and Ireland. The Justice Commission Report in Wales (2019) flagged up a problem in the current system that needed investigating, as too many Welsh children were being removed due to a system that was unfit for purpose. Viv Baker MA (Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Masters at Goldsmiths University) set up PEN (public enquiry now into Welsh children’s services in 2019) to offer peer to peer support for mothers/fathers who had been targeted unfairly. We did weekly sessions to offer support because there are so many suicides in Wales connected with children wrongly being removed from loving families. One lady had her own child abuse (when she was a helpless child herself) used against her when as an adult, having just given birth, medical staff did not comply to their ethical codes but used obsolete data as a tool to remove her baby. This data had an obsolete diagnosis of schizophrenia when this lady was just 12 years old (the doctor who did this to her when she was a child was struck off as he had been diagnosing babies and toddlers and drugging them). This woman was a child victim of this doctor and yet this obsolete diagnosis was used by incompetent staff who did not double check the accuracy of the data. Instead she was re-victimised and this was used to remove her child. This was just 2019. This is yet another case in Wales. No accountability. No evidence of Welsh systems being trauma informed. RIP Nia. I’m so sorry they did this to you xx Wish we could have reached out to you. X
