Mom Caught after 6 Years on the Run: 15 Year-Old Daughter Returned to Father
ALSO: Update & Call to Action in UK Mother in Jail Case
Heather was caught and arrested in North Carolina last weekend after an incredible six year run in hiding, garnering international MSM attention.
Unfortunately, her daughter, Kayla, now 15 years-old, was returned to her “rightful owner” much like a stolen car would be, no questions asked. At 15, she should have a say as to what happens to her, but not in Family Court, where children are still treated as property of the father.
Heather posted a $250K bond in Buncombe County and as was released on her own recognizance. She was told to turn herself in appear in Kane County where she would be released on additional bail. Instead, they threw her in jail and held her without bond.
Could it be that the OBN [old boy network] just can’t stand the fact that a woman was able to get out from under the control of her ex for so long and annoyingly be able to walk free after posting the exorbitant bond meant to keep her incarcerated?
Can’t have these uppity women who dare challenge male authority in the family by fleeing to keep or protect their children walking around free. That would look bad and send the wrong message to other women who may try and do similar uppity things.
Heather’s attorney was eventually able to get her released conditional on her wearing an ankle monitor.
As usual Heather’s flight into hiding was preceded by a Family Court judge giving sole custody to the father. It is unknown which judge or whether her daughter had disclosed abuse. She was 9 years old at the time.
Not much is known about the custody case except what has been cursorily reported in the media. Heather had a short romantic relationship with the father and left him shortly after Kayla was born. Heather had primary custody. According to local reporting, the father went on to marry a woman with two little girls.
Kayla had primary custody until early 2017 when the father was given sole custody, with the power to make all legal and medical decisions for Kayla. The father claims the reason he filed for and got sole custody was that Heather had been “messing with [Kayla’s] medical and health issues”.
This is suspicious and raises red flags.
In typical Custody Crisis cover-up-of-paternal-abuse cases, judges will give sole custody to fathers so mothers cannot bring the child to a doctor or therapist to whom they may disclose abuse, especially sexual abuse. In many cases, the mother is overtly threatened that she will not see her children again, at least not unsupervised, if she dares bring them to someone not approved by the court/father, i.e. an insider who will go along with the cover up.
It is impossible to know yet whether this is what happened in Heather’s case but it all sure stinks. “Messing with medical issues” is vague and does not rise to the level of taking a child away from her primary bond.
What is interesting, though, is that her ex became friends with Lashada’s ex—the mother whose case was profiled last month in: “Mom Turns Herself in after 3 Years”. Lashada had a lot of corroborating evidence her daughters were being sexually abused and she was kept from taking them to the kids’ trusted therapist who had written a letter to the court confirming the father’s abuse.
Lashada’s case also involved overzealous law enforcement working with the father to ratchet up the search for her, stirring up a media frenzy. Are men joining together behind the scenes to swap ideas for catching escaped exes?
There has been a lot of international media on Heather’s “capture” and Kayla being “found alive” and “found safe”. As if that is such a miracle. They don’t mention the incongruity that if Heather was such a danger, why would Kayla be happily shopping for clothes with her mom when caught?
Last year a missing kids photo was briefly shown on an episode of “Unsolved Mysteries”, which apparently led to her arrest.
As usual MSM is spinning the story as Heather being an evil kidnapper, with her mug shot front and center (an old but obvious spin tactic) and age-progressed photos of Kayla by NCMEC [National Center for Missing and Exploited Children].
They all report how fantastic it is the awful “child abductor” mother has been caught and the poor abducted daughter returned to her wonderful father. They never comment on the fact that he gives no good reason for having taken Kayla away from her mother where she wanted to be.
Why not even raise the possibility the mother may have had a good reason to flee, something other than just having lost custody? Or that even a mother “just” losing custody unjustly is a justifiable reason to flee. After all, for most mothers and children, they are each other’s most important bond, hence most important part, of their lives.
But that does not fit the patriarchal narrative. And it’s not good for the public to know how common it is that Family Court judges switch custody to fathers who are abusive or do not deserve it.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, this is what Family Court does to mothers:
Heather faces two counts of child abduction. It is unclear why there are two charges when only one child was abducted. Likely a way to trump up charges to get a longer prison term.
Heather’s next hearing is on June 14th at the Kane County Courthouse at 9am in Room 305 with Judge David Kliment.

UPDATE & CALL TO ACTION
UK MOTHER FACING 5 YEARS NEEDS EMAILS TO JUDGE
In March, WCN&V posted a column about a British mother who was jailed without bail, facing a long prison term, for breaching a gag order by posting on social media about how Family Court had given her children to her abusive ex. Some of you wrote letters to her in jail.
For the full story see: Mother Instigates Own Arrest to Expose Family Court Injustice. At the time, the mother’s name was not known due to UK reporting restrictions, so we used the alias of “Kate” but we now know her real name is Anna and she is set to be sentenced to up to 5 years in prison on June 7th at Newcastle Crown Court.
Anna’s daughter disclosed sexual abuse and there was much corroborating evidence. As usual, custody was switched to the abusive father and he was allowed to alienate her daughter and son from her.
She became very vocal on social media about the injustice being done to her and other mothers. Although she has been jailed for short stints before, recent posting landed her in jail without bond. She was found guilty in March of breaching the gag order, despite her now adult daughter testifying her father had sexually abused her and she had been wrongly taken from Anna.
The prosecutors claimed her daughter has been brainwashed by her mother, but actually the father was unable to brainwash her to recant the abuse. Anna’s son was successfully brainwashed by the father and completely alienated from Anna.
EMAIL JUDGE PRINCE
Please take a moment to email the judge to ask him to sentence Anna to time served. This is an opportunity to give back to a mother who has so bravely spoken out for all mothers devastated by Family Court over the course of the last 12 years.
You can copy and paste or write your own. Let’s flood Judge Prince with emails! [BTW this is a therapeutic way to vent some of your family court anger.]
Subject: Anna Kornas: time served
I am with Women’s Coalition International and we are asking you to sentence Anna Kornas to time served on June 7th. She has been jailed long enough for simply having posted the truth about what she was subjected to in Family Court.
There is a crisis of mothers around the world who are unable to maintain custody or protect our children. I am one of those mothers. I am speaking out. #WeStandwithAnna
NOTE: You can cc: firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to let us know you participated.
*THANKS to all the mothers who emailed Kate/Anna after the last post.
